Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s funeral attendees include prominent polticians across bi-partisan lines. But the elephant in the room is why Donald Trump didn’t say his final goodbyes.
More than 1,000 guests were expected at the invitation-only funeral at Washington National Cathedral on Nov. 20, including two presidents and four vice presidents. Former presidents George W. Bush and Joe Biden are attending to pay their respects, alongside former vice presidents Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, Al Gore, and Dan Quayle. Former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were not in attedance either.

But why wasn’t the current POTUS in attendance at the politician’s funeral?
Why Wasn’t Donald Trump at Dick Cheney’s Funeral?
Per multiple reports, Donald Trump wasn’t invited to the former Vice President Dick Cheney’s funeral. Current Vice President J.D. Vance was also not invited to the event.
During his final years, Cheney was a critic of Trump and his administration, and he described the current president as a coward and said no one was a “greater threat to our republic.”
A point of contention between the two politicians was when Cheney’s daughter Rep. Liz Cheney crossed party lines when investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol. The former Congresswoman lost her position in Republican leadership and lost her seat when Trump endorsed her opponent.
“He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him,” the former vice president stated. “A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election and he lost big. I know it, he knows it, and, deep down, I think most Republicans know it.”
Speaking of his daughter, he added, “There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office and she will succeed.”
Vice President Dick Cheney died on Nov. 3, 2025. President Trump has not commented on his death. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on the afternoon he died only that Trump was “aware” that Dick Cheney died.
“I know the president is aware of the former vice president’s passing. And as you saw, flags have been lowered to half staff in accordance with statutory law,” she said.
