It’s an iconic line from The Wizard of Oz, and now it’s set to be one of the standout songs in Wicked: For Good. “There’s No Place Like Home” might come out as one of the most emotional songs in the sequel.
Wicked: For Good includes two new songs that were specifically written for the movie. The two songs were previewed in the NBC special Wicked: One Wonderful Night a couple of weeks before the film’s premiere. “There’s No Place Like Home” is Elphaba’s song during the climax of the film. Ariana Grande said that the song showcases “Elphaba’s dedication to protecting Oz, even as she faces rejection from everyone around her.”

What is the meaning behind “There’s No Place Like Home”?
“There’s No Place Like Home” is a song to encourage people and animals to think of their roots during their lowest moments. In the movie, Elphaba and the animals feel discouraged by their efforts, but the witch reminds them of the dream that Oz promised to them.
Cynthia Erivo told Variety that she collaborated with Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz to write the song, and said that the process was “special” to her. “When we filmed it, the entire crew was in tears,” she recalled. “I hope audiences are ready — it’s a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is.”
The actress said that she dug deep in her personal emotions to create the song. “I know what it feels like to walk into a room where people don’t want you to be there,” Erivo continued. “I know what it feels like to be bullied, to feel rejected, to feel like you’re not loved. Bringing those memories to the surface wasn’t easy, but it was necessary to show Elphaba’s vulnerability and resilience.”
Wicked “There’s No Place Like Home” Lyrics
[ELPHABA]
How do I love this place
That’s never loved me?
A place that seems to devoted
To evil wanting [?]
But Oz is more than just a place
It’s a promise, an idea
I want to help make it come true
Why should a land have so much meaning
When dark times are falling?
It’s only land and dirt and rug and wall
It’s just a place that’s familiar
And home’s just what we call it
But there’s no place like home
Don’t we all know?
There’s no place like home
[DULCIBEAR, SPOKEN]
Wе tried to understand
We just can’t fight anymorе
[ELPHABA, SPOKEN]
We have to
[ELPHABA, SUNG]
When you feel you can’t fight anymore
Just tell yourself
“There’s no place like home”
When you feel it’s not worth fighting for
Compel yourself because
There’s no place like home
When you want to leave discouraged and resign
That’s what they want you to do
But think how you’ll grieve for all you’ll leave behind
Oz belongs to you too
Those who were taken from you
Spout a lie to sell yourself
And go their way or go
It’s their will you’ll be defeating
If we keep on repeating
“There’s no place like home”
There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home
If we just keep fighting for it
We will win back and restore it
There’s no place like
