Sometimes TikTok really is a blessing in disguise. Between all the trends and life hacks, I occasionally come across something that actually feels useful, and this time, it’s a challenge every book lover needs to know about. Created by @emilypaigebooks, the 75 Booked Challenge is my favorite one yet (and I’ve tried almost all of them). As someone who was on the verge of a reading slump (the worst fate a reader can face), I was immediately drawn in because it strikes the perfect balance between challenging yourself and still being totally doable. Not to mention, the added bonus of helping me make a dent in my TBR list and finish off my reading goal before the year ends. If you’ve been wanting a cozy way to get back into reading or you just love a good reset, the 75 Booked challenge might be exactly what you need.
What is 75 booked?
You’ve probably heard of the 75 Hard challenge—the intense fitness program that tests both physical and mental toughness. But lately, people have been putting a softer spin on it, creating their own versions that focus more on mindfulness than muscle. Enter 75 Booked: a challenge centered on mental nourishment through reading. Here’s how it works:
- Complete two 45-minute reading sessions each day (one of them not in bed). And yes, audiobooks count.
- Finish a water bottle during each reading session.
- Log all your reading in a physical journal.
- No purchasing new books—everything you read must already be owned, bought secondhand, or borrowed from a library.
- It’s structured, but still feels grounded and intentional, which is exactly the kind of gentle accountability that makes it doable.
My thoughts during 75 Booked so far
I didn’t even have to think twice about joining in once I saw this challenge on my FYP. I already read pretty consistently, but I’m always up for a challenge that adds a new twist. I especially love that this one weaves in a bit of physical wellness with the “drink water while you read” rule. As someone who is chronically dehydrated, I consider that a win-win. The journaling aspect also feels like such a refreshing addition. I’ve been wanting to keep better track of what I read, and honestly, sometimes I forget the details of certain books a week after finishing them. Having a reading log feels like a great way to stay present with what I’m consuming. The “no new books” rule is the easiest part for me. I have an extensive home library (I stopped counting after 100), most of which are secondhand finds. And when I do want something I don’t own, the library always comes through, especially since they can request books from other branches. I’m only a few weeks in, but I can definitely see myself continuing these reading rituals even after the 75 days are over.
Why you should try the 75 Booked Challenge
This is the perfect cozy, mentally nourishing challenge for a slower, more reflective time of year. It promotes consistency without pressure, mindfulness without rigidity, and inspiration without burnout. By carving out intentional time each day just for yourself, you’ll build gentle consistency while creating healthier digital boundaries and swapping mindless scrolling for something more soul-filling. It’s also a chance to reignite your love for reading or to pull yourself out of a reading slump with just enough structure to bring the joy back. It’s the kind of challenge that reminds you growth doesn’t always have to be about doing more; it can be about slowing down, refocusing, and enjoying the process.
Tips for success
- Schedule dedicated reading time each day.
- Multitask by listening to audiobooks while driving, cleaning, or walking.
- Create a list of books you’re genuinely excited to read. And include variety.
- Designate a cozy reading space that makes you look forward to your sessions.
- Make it a ritual—morning with coffee, or nighttime with tea.
- Remember: it’s not about perfection.
In a world obsessed with self-improvement challenges, 75 Booked stands out for its simplicity. It’s not about pushing harder; it’s about nourishing your mind, one chapter at a time.
