Hatch Restore 3 Review: How I Went From Hitting Snooze to Actually Enjoying My Mornings

by AEDUooliu

Like most people, I’m never not chasing 1) a better night’s sleep and 2) a calmer morning routine. Between work, life, and an eight-month-old baby who has yet to fully commit to sleeping through the night, “restful” isn’t exactly the word I’d use to describe my evenings. And my mornings? Let’s just say they’ve been more “slam the snooze until the actual last second” than “rise and shine.”

However, one thing that has always been a key player in giving me at least somewhat of a restful sleep and peaceful morning is my Hatch Restore 2. So, I was immediately intrigued when the brand announced the new Hatch Restore 3, promising smarter sleep support and a sleeker, more refined design. As someone who’s already a loyal Hatch fan, I had to know: was this new version genuinely worth the upgrade?

So I gave it a go for several weeks through late-night baby wake-ups, early-morning coffee runs, and everything in between to see if it could live up to the hype. Here’s how it really performed, from setup to sleep to those first few minutes of waking up.

What is the Hatch Restore 3?

If you’re new to the brand, the Hatch Restore 3 is not your run-of-the-mill alarm clock. It’s a sleep companion that acts as a sunrise alarm clock, sound machine, and relaxation tool all in one. It’s designed to help you fall asleep naturally and wake up gently, so you can say goodbye to doomscrolling until your eyes fall shut or being jolted awake by a God awful phone alarm.

The newest model builds on the success of the Hatch Restore 2 with thoughtful upgrades: a refreshed sound library with more nature-inspired soundscapes, customizable light transitions for both winding down and waking up, and a streamlined app that’s easier to navigate. The design has also been subtly elevated: sleeker, softer, and even more minimal, making it a natural fit for any nightstand or bedroom aesthetic.

If you struggle with traditional alarms, want to reduce brain rot before bed, or just crave a calmer, more mindful way to bookend your day, this is exactly what you’re looking for.

Set up and first impressions

Unboxing the Hatch Restore 3 felt immediately satisfying. The design is modern but not cold or bland—the color is slightly more muted than the previous model, which I love, and it has that same matte finish Hatch is known for. It’s the kind of thing that looks like decor, not a high-tech device that’s kind of an eye sore.

The setup was refreshingly simple. I added it to my Hatch app, connected it to Wi-Fi, and within minutes, it was ready to use. The biggest improvement I noticed right away was the large central button—it’s intuitive and makes using the Hatch without your phone incredibly easy. As a mom who’s often half-asleep by 9:30 p.m., I deeply appreciate any product that doesn’t require extra steps.

On my nightstand, it blended in seamlessly with the rest of my bedroom—I love that it doesn’t give, “Hey, look! I’m a massive alarm clock!” The soft glow of the light feels warm and soothing rather than harsh or artificial, either. All around, it seamlessly blended into my life in a matter of minutes.

How it changed my sleep routine

Before Hatch products entered my life, my nighttime routine was…well, not amazing. After finally getting my baby down, I’d swear I was going to read, but would end up on Instagram until midnight and leave my brain buzzing with notifications and a to-do list up until the very second before I fell asleep. However, Hatch completely changed that pattern—especially the Hatch Restore 3.

I started using the “wind down” routine every night, pairing the warm red light with calming spa sounds, and I could feel my body actually responding. The red light, in particular, has become my signal to unplug—it tells my brain that I am clocked out for the day.

The ability to use the Restore 3 completely phone-free has also been huge. I can leave my phone downstairs without panicking that I won’t wake up on time, and it’s given me back those quiet moments with myself and my husband. I’ve noticed I fall asleep faster, wake up feeling less groggy, and most importantly, a TikTok is not the last thing gracing my eyes before I go to bed.

The wake-up experience

To be so honest, I was skeptical about the sunrise simulation at first. Could a light really make waking up feel… good? But within a few mornings, I was converted. The gradual light change feels like waking up to a soft sunrise, with golden tones that gently fill the room rather than blinding you awake. You can customize the timing, brightness, and color (I love the warmer hues, personally) as well as your wake-up sound—birds, ocean waves, gentle chimes, and so many more.

By day three, I found myself waking up before the sound even started, which has literally never happened in my life. Instead of hitting snooze five times, I’ve started easing into the day, sometimes even journaling or sipping coffee before my son wakes up. It’s a small change that’s made my mornings feel calmer and less rushed.

Pros and cons of the Hatch Restore 3

Pros:

  • Elevated design fits any bedroom aesthetic
  • Wider range of soothing sounds and customizable light settings
  • Helps reduce phone dependency before bed
  • Gentle, natural wake-up experience that actually feels good

Cons:

  • Subscription required for full sound library access
  • Higher price point than a standard alarm clock
  • Takes a little trial and error to perfect the routine that works for you

How it compares to the Hatch Restore 2

If you already have a Hatch Restore 2 and are wondering whether it’s worth upgrading, here’s the breakdown. The Restore 3 isn’t a complete overhaul—it’s more like a thoughtful evolution. The light quality feels warmer and smoother, the sound library leans more nature-forward (I’m obsessed with the forest soundscape), and the app interface is more polished and intuitive.

Design-wise, the Restore 3 has a slightly smaller footprint and softer, more neutral tones. And while both models offer a similar experience, that large main button on the new version makes a surprisingly big difference. You can do everything you need without reaching for your phone and entirely depending on the app. In short, if you already love your Hatch Restore 2, the 3 feels like a refined, elevated version of something that’s already great.

Is the Hatch Restore 3 worth it?

For me, absolutely. If you’re serious about improving your sleep routine or just want to start and end your day with a little more calm, the Hatch Restore 3 is one of the best tools you can add to your nightstand. It’s not just about waking up better, but creating a sense of peace in your everyday life.

Wellness girlies will love the mindfulness features, people who want to reduce their screen time will appreciate the phone-free structure, and anyone who struggles with traditional alarms will find relief in its gentle wake-up light. For me, it’s gone from “nice to have” to “can’t live without.” It’s a small luxury that pays off every single morning and night. If it can turn a serial snooze-hitter like me into someone who actually enjoys mornings, it’s doing something right.
